Cool, with light rain; lots of puddles on the course, but overall not a bad evening for racing.

We Will Not Lay Down to Cancer 5K, Franklin - July 20, 2013
From Paul: 9am start- how hot could it be? Very. This was a very well organized and run race. Mile markers at 1, 2, and 3. TWO water stops which were really appreciated. Timing at mile 1 and 2. Lots of small hills through a Franklin neighborhood. There was some good shade, followed by some blazing sun. I did good on some parts and not so well on others. Your final turn back into the Annie Sullivan school was at the 3 mile mark. I still had something left in the tank and was able to sprint up the final 400 to the finish. Thank you Coach Rich!
From Kristen: Great race for important cause but the heat was tough.

Tough Mountain Challenge, Sunday River, ME - July 20, 2013
From Sarah Parks: Peter Rackley and I finished the Sunday River Tough Mountain Challenge in 1:15:57. It was so hard - there was a steep mountain climb halfway through. This was the hardest race we have ever done. Mud, swimming, dark tunnels, trails and barbed wire all in a 5k course. We ran as a duo and we are already signed up for next year!!
Marathon Sports 5 Miler, Weston - July 18, 2013
Thanks to some late day clouds, it wasn't quite as hot as two years ago (upper 80s this time), but the air could hardly have been more humid. Not a day for PRs.

Old Port Half Marathon, Portland, ME - July 14, 2013
From Devon: This was my first half, and I am sad to say that it did not go well. The first 9 mi were ok, including a very big hill at mi 2 (which I probably pushed too hard on), but the loop around the cove had no shade on a very sunny hot humid morning, and by mile 10 I was toast. I couldn't even jog the last mile and ended up collapsing as I crossed the finish line- not enough electrolytes, even with 3 gels and 3 tabs in my water pack. Only an IV bag was able to stop the cramping in my legs :( I WILL do it again though! Just maybe not until next season…

Extreme Wolverine Challenge - Run in the Mud, Stratton, VT - July 13, 2013
John Dumont's two-man team finished the 6M obstacle course race in 1:19:43. They were 19th and 20th overall in a field of roughly 100, and first in the firefighter team category!
From John: The course winds up, down, and across the ski slopes of Stratton Mountain. Along the way there are several obstacles including tire walls, wooden walls, mud crawls, beer keg monkey bars, and a pond swim that was a surprise to all. And, after the pond swim, you had to negotiate a series of floating "pods" that inevitably put you in the water again. All in all, the race's toughest obstacle is the mountain itself. So, here, runners had the advantage. Overall this is a fun event at a scenic venue.
Jamestown Half Marathon, Jamestown, RI - July 13, 2013
From Kristen: The race was pretty unorganized. There was a huge line for bib pick up, then you had to get in a different line for your packet pick up, and yet another line for the bus to the start. The race was set to start at 6:30 but with the hold up at check in it ended up starting at 6:50. Course was very scenic and extremely hilly! Almost a hill every mile. Weather was great!

Finger Lakes Fifties, Hector, NY - July 6, 2013
From Anthony: A few of us drove out to the beautiful Finger Lakes National Park for some camping, some beer, and oh, some trail racing this past weekend. Temps near 90 degrees and extremely muddy conditions made the Finger Lakes Fifties course much tougher than I was expecting based on reading race reports from past years. Mark Brown and I ran the whole 33 mile race together and placed 16th and 17th overall out of 103, with Mark taking 2nd in his age group and me taking 3rd in mine. Jeff Hattem ran the 16.5 mile race and won his age group!

4 on the 4th, Bridgton, ME - July 4, 2013
From Sarah: Peter Rackley and I ran the Bridgton, Maine 4 on the Fourth on Thursday. It was brutally hot and humid. There were 2000 people - huge event in Bridgton every year!!
