New Jersey Ultra Festival, Augusta, NJ - March 22, 2014
From John: I participated in the New Jersey Ultra Festival at the state fairgrounds in Augusta, NJ this past weekend. The festival included races of the following distances: marathon, 50k, 50 miler, 100k, and 100 miler, all starting at various times on Saturday morning (3/22). I ran the 50 miler. The course consisted of a 10 Mile loop using Fairground property (~2 miles) and 2 out and backs on unimproved rail trail (~8 miles) with the starts modified for the marathon, 50k and 100k distances. The snow and ice covered rail trail made footing challenging, especially after the day started to warm up, but it was a fun event. There were about 200 participants in all races with about 150 total finishers. The 50 mile race had 33 finishers. I finished 3rd overall in 8:21:42, about 10:02 pace.

Marin Ultra Challenge, Sausalito, CA - March 15, 2014
From Rich: This was a trail race with distances from 50 miles down to a half marathon; I ran the half. Starts at Fort Baker at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge and runs up into the hills of the Marin Headlands. Challenging run with ~2900 feet of elevation gain. Unbelievable views of the bridge and San Francisco. Weather was about perfect: Sunny, mid-50s to start, and mid-60s at the finish.

Celtic 5K, Worcester - March 9, 2014
Glenn Miller wins the Tour de Patrick, three 5Ks in eight days!
From Sarah: I had heard feedback prior to this that the race is a bit on the boring side because it's a 10 mile loop you do twice. They also have a 10 mile race going on that day and a 20 mile relay. Overall, it was a decent course where you run from downtown Salem to Marblehead and back into Salem again. My only complaint was the start line was pretty disorganized; there was no corral and runners and non-runners were mixed into the crowd.
