Danskin Women’s Triathlon Series / Webster / MA / Saturday, July 27From Jo-Ellen - This was the largest Danskin Triathlon in New England with nearly 2500 women participating.  The event consisted of a ˝ mile swim, 12 mile bike, and 2.8 mile run.  The morning started out with a torrential downpour and thunderstorms, which made it challenging to set up in the transition area.  By race time, the rain stopped and a ˝ delay gave ample time for the ground to dry (although parts of the transition zone were extremely muddy).  It was perfect weather for racing, cool and cloudy.  This was my third time participating in this event and once again was able to trim another 10 minutes off of my total finish time.  While my swimming and biking had the greatest improvements (placing 123 overall for the bike), I still made some gains in the running portion.  Overall, I distance running and biking helped a great deal with overall endurance.  By the time I hit the pavement with my sneakers for the final running segment, my legs felt strong.  This is a very well-supported event and good for first timers, especially with the swim angel program.  Great wicking shirts and huge expo held day prior to event.

Dennis Rec 5 Mile Road Race / Dennis / MA / Saturday, July 26 -
From Harry Jarvis - Warm, dry and sunny.  Almost flat course.  I run this race every year because my mom lives in Dennis.  This year we were urged to run on the right-hand side of the road. This is wrong because the traffic then comes from behind you and because the course is predominantly a counter-clockwise loop. If you follow the rule you will run a longer distance than those who don't.  Also, the water stops were ill-placed on the outsides of sharp turns, again causing you to run extra distance to get water.  There was fruit and water at the finish but it appeared that they were charging for hamburgers and hot dogs (I didn't ask if runners ate free).  There is a raffle and awards but I didn't stick around for that.  It's not a bad race if you are going to be in Dennis anyway but I guess I wouldn't go out of my way to run it.                                                                          Race Link

Hockomock YMCA Sprint Try-athlon / Wrentham / MA / Friday, July 13Jo-Ellen McCarrick with a fourth place finish in her division.  Great job.  From Jo-Ellen - This is a great event for both the seasoned and beginner triathlete. The event consisted of a 500 meter swim, 13 mile bike and 2 mile run. Running is always challenging following swimming and biking! This year, however, training with longer distance running and biking has greatly improved my stamina and overall time. This appears to be an annual event. Swimming start needs some improvement as the women were released at the same time and close to the 2nd wave of men – too many people in the water. Bike route was a loop that was completed twice. It was relatively flat with one hill. The run was an out and back with rolling hills. Very well organized and officially timed. Perfect weather. Race Link
