National Capital 20 Mile   / Alexandria / VA / Sunday, September 28 - Mike Sawyer with a second place finish overall and first in his division.  Mike finished only 16 seconds behind the winner.
From Mike - It was 70 degrees and humid at gun time, but it also had light rain and drizzle which I thought helped not get too hot.  Somewhere along the line the argument among three of us on which two would be second and third overall turned into chasing the leader when he came back into view at times around 16.  Ran as hard as I could from 17 on but too much for me to quite catch up to.

4th Annual Reebok Canton Homecoming / 10K  / Canton / MA / Saturday, September 27 - The 10K went off in between the weekend of rain.  Roads were wet and slippery with a temperature of 65 and humidity equal to that.  The course is up and down with a long gradual climb followed by a steep downhill and then a shorter but steep hill brining you to the finish.  Only 58 runners in the race following the 5K which had 250 runners.  There was still plenty of food and drink to go around.

20th Annual Fred Brown Relay Around Lake Winnipesaukee / Weirs Beach NH - Sunday, September 20

Congratulations to TVFR Team of Meredith Dutton, Kelley Terrill, Mike Sawyer, Keith Neal, Tara Neal, Don Palladini and Larry Olsen for their fourth place finish in a huge twenty-four team open field.

From Mike Sawyer - It was terrific weather for the Lake Winnipesaukee Relay around the big lake, and an even better day for the TVFR team of seven! This race starts in Weirs Beach NH at the Funspot (what fun!) and across from JT’s BBQ (mmmm), which was a great finish for the race and also dinner for the day by some of the team members that stayed over. It seemed other clubs also chose it for group dinners as well.

Meredith Dutton started the team off with a strong 10.7 first leg to the applause of all teams cheering on the race start at 8:00 AM when it was still very cool (about 45 degrees). Kelley Terrill followed her lead with the same type of strong effort for a 11 mile lead and got the team to the Alton Bay bandstand it good and competitive time! Mike ran leg three, which has a big hill early in the leg and handed off to the first half of Team Neal (Tara) at leg four, with her passing to Keith for the 10.8 mile leg 5. Both Neal’s have not run a race all year (and longer than that) yet ran exceptional legs in only 28:38 for a rolling 4 miles, and 1:05:32 for another 10.8 miles! Don Palladini took the baton from Keith for a very fast leg 6 that moved the team up into sixth place. We hoped to hold onto that place or at least the top 10 placement and were in good hope with Larry Olsen racing leg seven. Larry opened the gap and even closed on the in front teams by logging a 52:21 for 8.5 mile leg that was ranked second among all runners for that leg, expanding our standing against every team excepting the first overall team. So we found ourselves in high hopes given we had only one leg left to run though the town of Meredith. So of course who else to pass onto that Meredith? Yes, she ran two legs for the team! Meredith put it away for TVFR running a brutal 4.4 mile second leg in 30:26, a performance that put us out of reach from the team behind us by adding 1:45 to our lead and leaving them out of site at the finish, a Fun Spot! Our entire team raced a 6:31 pace for over 65 miles in 7:03:10 and placed 4t h of the top 5 awarded positions for a large Open category. It was a great weekend!

From Meredith would like to nominate Mike Sawyer for the "Herding Cats Award"--for corralling a bunch of eccentric distance runners (we know who we are, guys!) into a cohesive entity that ended up functioning like a single sleek organism!!

From Keith - Also deserving special mention was Don's team saving tactical call of the day.  When it was clear the that shuttles were not going to show up to bring Don (and the other 100 runners) to the start of leg 6,  he decided to jump in his car and try and find the exchagne zone.  He was able to get one of the course designers, who was also stuck waiting for the bus, to come with him and made it in time to get the baton!  Some teams were not so lucky and the runner coming in from teh 10.8 mile leg had to tough out another 6+ miles.

From Don - First let me thank Mike and Tri-Valley for letting me be part of a great running weekend.  Let’s start off with Kelly. Running 11 miles in NH. With all the hills you had to run you were amazing.  Then Keith and Tara their first race in over a year.  You would never know it by the times they ran they are fantastic.  Mike running up a mountain on his leg and passing runners on the way he was incredible.  Larry!!  2nd overall time on his leg.  I don’t know what to say about him he is unbelievable and we are lucky to witness his greatness.  But my vote for MVP is Meredith.  She ran 10.7 at 8am and then ran 4.4 to finish. A total of 15.1 and the last 4.4 mostly up hill.  (And not baby hills these were HILLS) She was the true IRON WOMAN on our team.  The best part of running the relay is just that.  We were a team.  It this sport we have chosen it’s rare that you feel part of a team heading for a common goal.  We accomplished our goal and thank you for letting me be a part of that.
