Boloco Heartbreak Hill 10K/ Newton / MA / Wednesday, June 29 - John Brown with an eleventh place finish overall and first in his division.  Linda Zavalick first in her division and Sherry Brown with a fifth place finish in her division.  Race Link
From John Brown - About 250 runners showed up for the first Boloco Heartbreak Hill races, which we all soon regretted. The course was pretty scenic and a little hilly. It included 1 trip up Heartbreak Hill for the 5k and 2 trips up it for the10k. The race was scheduled to start at noon but was delayed about 30 minutes because race organizers failed to get the roads closed. Oops! Good thing there was no water at the start! After all it was only about 85 degrees, sunny, and humid. I’d like to say once they got the roads closed the race went off without a hitch but I can’t. The race started and the lead police vehicle went down the wrong road. Oops! Luckily, the race organizers were able to respond quickly and direct the runners to the correct route (this time). The course was not marked, no mile markers, very little water, and no one directing runners during the race. The lead runners later went off course again. According to Nate Jenkin’s blog, he passed the 5k mark (1st loop) in 12:40; easily an American 5k record. Fortunately, there was a gap between the lead pack and the rest of the runners and everyone else stayed on the course. I’d like to say things got better at the finish but they didn’t. No water at the finish. NONE! Oops! Fortunately, Vitamin Water was there giving out samples of flavored water and there was plenty of that. The food was good as long as you like burritos. Boloco makes burritos and that was it for the food. There were several bike races being held after the running races. So we watched them while we waited for the results. Oops! The races were fun but no results. Another minor glitch. They had the chips to record times but someone forgot to mention that you have to type in the runner details. Results were finally posted Tuesday night. Maybe they’ll get it right next year.

Wayside Racquet and Swim Club / 5K / Marlboro / MA / Wednesday, June 25 - Dennis Coakley led TVFR with thirty-seventh overall and second in his division.  Gary Atlas next across the line for Tri-Valley and Mary Tyler with a second place finish in her division.
From Gary Atlas - Really enjoyed this race!  It is a challenging 3.39 mile course with nicely placed hills (both up & down).  From the national anthem blown on trumpet by the race director’s 14 yr old son to the excellent food & beverage following the race, this is an event that I will be looking forward to repeating for next year!   Well organized & well attended for Wednesday night race.  Family fun for everyone following the race as the Wayside club opens its doors & pool for all to enjoy.

Palmer Family Chiropractic 1st Annual 5K/ Milford / MA / Saturday, June 21 From Kathleen Grevers - This was also my 1st race ever timed with a stroller. Came in 12th place at about a 10min pace. Weather was a scorcher @ 88 degrees & full fledged sun. Race course was mostly on the back streets and on the Milford bike path. "Expo" portion was at Fino Field. 1 Water spot at 1mm. Volunteers at street intersection had no idea about holding off the cars for runners (esp with strollers). Thank god it went by quickly. Plenty of water, amazing prizes from the raffle and tons of great watermelon at the finish. The vendors were very happy and supportive. Race Link

Sharon Timlin Memorial 5k for ALS Research / Hopkinton / MA / Saturday, June 21 A great turn out for the race and a great turn out of Tri-Valley runners.  Over 1100 runners with eighteen TVFR's including returning hero's Jean and Don Bell from the state of Maine.  John Brown led the Tri-Valley with a thirteenth place finish and first in his division.  Elizabeth Morin and Linda Zavalick took first in their divisions.  Charlene Gaboriault took second in her division.   Don Palladini and John Parker took third in their divisions with Don and Jean Bell taking fifth in their divisions.   Also having very good races were The Stephens family (Anita, Mark and Erin)  taking fourth, fifth and sixth in the Tri-Valley results.  Sherry Brown, Jo-Ellen McCarick, Debbie Gaulitz and Dawn Palladini, Mary Tyler, Ted Tyler and Frank Nealon all with good efforts.   Race Link
From John Parker - This is becoming a big race but is well managed.  Lots of pizza and bagels and a one-mile race for kids.  Steve Burton (Channel 4 sportscaster) announced the awards and Mike Timlin handed them out.  The top 3 in each division stood on an Olympic style podium to have their picture taken.  Mike's wife, Dawn, and David Aardsma's future wife, Andrea Aardsma, ran the race.  Both World Series trophies, 2004 and 2007, were on display there, and 79 year old Frank Nealon was the oldest runner by far.

Boston Run to Remember Half Marathon / Boston / MA / Saturday, May 24 -
From Kate Bett - A first half marathon for JoEllen and Kate, a good run by all and relatively pleased with the results especially as both JoEllen and Kate were coming off injuries – plenty of opportunity for improvement for next year.  It was a great day, a packed running field and plenty of water along the route.    Not a bad race as the course was flat and the weather was great.
From Anita Stephens - It was a beautiful day with a flat, fast course starting at the Seaport and then an out and back along Memorial Drive, finishing through the Boston Commons and the theater district, back to the Seaport.  It's the 2nd year we've done this event  - a worthwhile cause for families of fallen police officers.  The Police Honor Guard send off at the beginning of the race was very moving!  Put it on your calendar for next Memorial Day weekend!!  Free beer from Harpoon was a nice touch as well!!
