Hyannis Marathon /
Hyannis / MA / Sunday,
February 24- Don
Basso coming off a fine ten miler last weekend continues to work hard with
Boston as his goal,
LINK |
From Don - I ran the
Hyannis as a training run for Boston. I achieved my goals - run the first half
slowly, then gradually increase pace during the second half. I finished the
final miles a the pace I'll need for Boston. It was a wonderful day, about 40
and sunny, and the race was well run, with a huge indoor facility. I took a
couple of potty breaks, and I would catch up with two guys that I met pre-race,
who were running their first marathon, so I was able to offer them advice and
encouragement as I went. They both finished, and I saw them after the race and
congratulated them. I was sure to tell everyone that I passed over the final
miles that they were looking good. |

Foxboro Old Fashioned
Ten Miler / Foxboro / Sunday, February 17
- Big turn out in theTen Mile race with over four hundred and twenty-five
runners. John Brown was first TVFR in, thirty-sixth overall and first in
his age division. Don Basso set a PR while "training" for the marathon.
Charlie Brown also with a great ten miler. Kathryn Fetteroll in her first
attempt at a ten mile race came home with second in her division. Charlene
Gaboriault third in her division. Demetra Edwards and Sherry
Brown with good runs along with Gary Atlas and Ted Tyler

From Martin Auty
- I call it the cruelty factor, when everything catches up
with you. In what looked like a beautiful day with sunshine
and a temperature of near 32 it wasn't quite as it appeared. A
brutal wind swept the course and combined with the hills beginning
at the five mile mark and my lack of a solid base made for a long
ten mile run. Heck the first six miles went great but then it
was time to pay the fiddler with several short and long hills and
then a cold wind to smack you in the face. TVFR had a table
together where we met before the race and chowed down after.
It was great to see everyone once again and to share in their
thoughts on the race. Good luck you marathoners it looks like
your training is starting to pay off. Can't wait to hear
what the others have to say!! |
|
From
Gary Atlas -
I share
Martin’s comments as well. Despite my times, I felt great (I like
the cold)! & had a great experience in this well organized race.
Kudos to the Wampanoag Road Runners for putting on this event.
Also Kudos to the Tri-Valley Frontrunner participants for a great
showing & a great results. This race continues to grow every year.

|
From Don Basso
- I questioned myself on whether I
should run a ten the week before Hyannis, but I'm glad that I did.
The race was very well-run, with a well-marked, mostly flat course.
The hill in mile eight was a bit of a challenge. I set a lifetime PR
for the length, breaking a 17 year old mark! Post-race refreshments
were excellent as well. It was nice to see so many TVFR friends
there. |
