6th Annual Sharon Timlin Memorial 5K Race to Cure ALS - Hopkinton, MA - June 20, 2009 A great turnout by TriValley runners with even the Bells coming all the way down east from Bar Harbor, Maine - a 6 hour drive.  The temperature wasn't bad but it was very muggy which cut down on some of the times - we're just not used to the heat.   Mike Sawyer was 11th overall in the race.  Ross Mungeam, John Parker and Charlene Gaboriault take first in their divisions.  Mary Tyler was running her fourth race this week but was more exhausted before the race trying to find Ted.  Over 1250 runners in the race this year with Mike Timlin and Tim Wakefield present to sign autographs.  Plenty of pizza, bagels, cookies and other goodies after the race.

9th Annual Day Of Portugal 5K Road Race - New Bedford, MA - June 14, 2009From Harry: Cool temps and light rain made it a good day for racing.  The course is like a lollipop; out on Acushnet Ave., around the park and back down Acushnet Ave. to the finish.  Slightly up-hill going out and therefore slightly down-hill coming back makes for fast times.  Stephanie took home the first place trophy in her age group since first female was in the same age group.  Good food after the race, the sun was coming out and the festival was just getting started for those who could hang around.

Lake Placid Marathon - Lake Placid, NY - June 14, 2009  - From Don: I ran the Lake Placid Marathon on Sunday, June 14. The start was on Main Street, just down a slight hill from Herb Brooks Arena, where the Miracle on Ice took place in 1980. The course was rolling hills with three big downs and three big hills. Temps were in the 70's, so this together with the terrain made for a challenging race. I placed 35th overall, and 4th in my age group. 288 finished the race. Aid stops were plentiful - I came home with more gel packs than I left with. The race ended with a sharp uphill climb to the speed skating oval where Eric Heiden won 5 gold medals.  The race was very well run, execpt for the post race food.  Pizza and subs (not too easy to digest after a marathon) and oranges were about it.  Luckily for me Darleen scored a peanut butter and jelly sandwich from the Team In Training tent. This was a wonderful trip, and a nice race with no worries as to logistics of getting to the start or finding adequate facilities.

Gaspee Days 5k - Allan & Edna W. Brown Memorial Footrace - Cranston - Warwick, RI -  June 13, 2009  - From Rich: This race is run right before a big parade. Route was lined with people waiting for the parade. There were 841 runners. The finish was a bit disorganized as many runners were forced to wait in line to get to the finish line (they only had one shoot).

Squirrel Run 5M - Quincy, MA - June 13, 2009  - Cool Running has this as a 5 miler but the times don't match the
distance. Good time for Mary over 5 miles.

Palmer Family Chiropractic's 2nd Annual 5K - Milford, MA - June 13, 2009  - From John: This course was intended to be a 5K distance, however, lack of volunteers at an important intersection caused runners to accidently cut the distance short.  After measuring the distance on USATF's website, I found the actual distance run to be 2.94 miles.  That said, the pace shown on "Cool Running" is incorrect.  Too bad, I would have preferred that 5:50 pace!

16th Annual Schofield 5K - Wellesley, MA - June 7, 2009  -   From John:  This is a very hilly course that starts up a hill and finishes on a downhill. The race director separates the children from the adults at the starting line allowing runners to compete while avoiding those running for fun.  This is a challenging course that has enough volunteers to make it well organized.

10th Annual Rhody 5K - Lincoln, RI - June 7, 2009  -   This is the fourth race in the USATF Grand Prix series.  There are separate races for the men and women.  As it turned out, we were one short on both the men’s and women’s sides and didn’t have enough participants to field any TVFR teams.
