Marine Corp Marathon - Washington, DC - October 30, 2011 - From Mike: It was a little chilly, but considering what was happening in MA, it was relatively a decent day for a run. I have never felt so happy and tired after completing a run. It was an experience that I was lucky to share with my whole family and now I may be hooked on this distance and improving my time :)

Amica Half Marathon - Newport, RI - October 16, 2011 - From Mike Nixon: Iran the Amica Half Marathon this weekend and below are my results. Easily one of the most beautiful courses I have ever run. The scenery made it easier and this is my final "tune-up" run before my marathon in 12 days. This should be on everyone's race list!

TARC Fall Classic - Lexington, MA - October 8, 2011 - From John Brown: I ran the TARC Fall Classic 50k held in the Landlocked Forest in Lexington, MA on October 8th. It was a great day for a run and the race was a lot of fun! Although, I hope to train for it next time. The course was a 10K loop and was 100% trails, with a good mix of rolling terrain. The 50k consisted of 5 x 10k looks. There was also a 10k, 1/2 Marathon, and Marathon held simultaneously. And over 135 finishers in all races. Demetra ran the 10k and Sherry, who was on the inactive list, volunteered.

Mount Desert Island Marathon - Bar Harbor, ME - October 16, 2011 - From Don Basso: The Mount Desert Island Marathon, in Bar Harbor Maine, is by far the hilliest and most challenging Marathon that I have run so far. I don't remember any flat sections at all. This is not a race to run for a PR, but it is the prettiest Marathon I ever ran. The course runs around the island providing tree-shaded lanes and wonderful ocean views. How did I do? I couldn't believe how good I felt at 22 miles, and I couldn't believe how bad I felt at 24. I ran a very conservative pace - 8:49 - and ran consistent throughout. I came in 172 out of 924. There are many good places to stay in or near town, and Bar Harbor is a great place to hang out before and after. I recommend this race highly.

TUFTS Health
Plan 10K for Women - Boston, MA - October 10, 2011 - From
Susan Cahill: I
always wanted to run this race, so I recklessly signed up on
Friday. I
am happy to say I finished. It was a tough race with the
heat, but much of the course was shaded. Due to the slow
start and generally not feeling great most of the race, I
posted a net time of 50:27. Considering how crowded it
was I think I did ok.
From Mary Tyler: My slowest time yet, but #35 is
in the books! My knee is still very slow recovering from
April's scoping, but the SymVisc injection about 6 weeks ago
seems to have helped a lot. It's not back to normal for sure,
but I was able to run about 3 miles, switched to half walking
half running and mostly walking for the last mile when the
mid-80's heat in the heavy cotton tee shirt we were given to
identify us as 35-year runners, and the lack of training over
the past year got to me. Knee got a little sore, but not
too bad today (Wednesday), so I think the race didn't hurt my
recovery, felt much bettter than the hilly Upton race.

Fall Foliage
Foot Race 5K - Waterville Valley, NH - October 9, 2011 - From
Glenn: Conditions:70 degrees with low humidity but felt
very warm. This is the 5 year that I've run this race with a
new added twist. The second mile this year is all dirt, the
toughest part of the course. Irene almost washed out a bridge
so they decided to tear up this stretch of road. Full of
potholes and loose stones made climbing the hill difficult.
But coming down after a quick loop at the top made it
treacherous. Pulling ahead of the first place guy climbing the
hill I made the decent as fast as I could without running into
the runners coming up. The last mile was all in the sun and
very warm. Trying to maintain my pace I had no idea how close
he was to me. With a quick glace over my shoulder with .2 to
go I couldn't see him. After 2 straight years getting 2nd
place I finally get the win! Awesome!!!
