6th Annual Swimsuit Classic 5K - July 31, 2011 -  Ted Tyler, running instead of photographing,  takes first in his division!   Mary Tyler continues her recovery from knee surgery.  From Mary Tyler:  I'm happy to report I'm getting much closer to running.  I did the 5K today alternating about 2-3 minutes of running, 4-5 minutes of walking and so far so good!  It really felt great to be able to run some again, although it's amazing how quickly one can lose conditioning for running. Fast walking just isn't the same.

2nd Annual Tyler M. Kubilus Memorial 5K Run - Lakeland, PA - July 30, 2011 -  From Gary Atlas: I did a local 5K while traveling thru PA.  This race was run primarily on high cut grass around fields and on the outskirts of Lakeland HS in Jermyn, PA.  The race finished with a lap around the high school track.  The results page temperature reports that it was 71, but I can assure you it was at least 10 degrees warmer.  The Woodland Trail race 2 days earlier had me ready for rough uneven surfaces.

We Will Not Lay Down to Cancel 5K - Franklin, MA - July 23, 2011 -  From Keith Neal: A few Tri Valley'ers were out at the 2nd Annual "We Will Not Lay Down To Cancer 5K" in Franklin braving buckets of rain and a bit of thunder.  We swept 1-2-3 over all, plus some age groups awards as well.  Jay Stock was 1st setting the course record.  And I believe Glenn Miller ran a PR.  For me, this was my first race since the BayState Marathon in October.  Right from the gun is was pouring cats and dogs and stayed that way for much of the race.  Great job to everyone.

Marathon Sports 5 Miler - Weston, MA - July 21, 2011 -  From Mike Nixon: It was 94 degrees at the start of the race at 7pm but with the heat factor it was 101 but by 8 is was down to 92 with a heat factor of 98.  I walked more than I have in a long time to keep from overheating and ran with gatorade which I usually don't do for distances under 10 miles.  But 800 people (out of 1200 registered) people finished the race so at least we weren't alone!

Back on My Feet 20in24 Lone Ranger Ultra Marathon - Philadelphia, PA - July 16, 2011 - From John Brown: I ran in the 24 hour Back on My Feet 20in24 Lone Ranger Ultra Marathon on Saturday 7/16. Disappointingly, due to a nagging foot injury and a lack of training as a result I only lasted a little over 14 1/2 hours. The race was in Philadelphia and consisted of 8.456 mile loops around the river near the art museum. It was very sunny with temps in the low 80's at the start and low 90's for most of the afternoon. During the day humidity was low but increased significantly overnight. The race was well supported: water stations with cold towels every 1-2 miles; gu, gatorade, food (sandwiches, pizza, soft pretzels, candy, chips, cookies, boiled potatoes) every 2 miles or so, medical tent at the start/finish and half way point. There were 207 finishers (any distance in the 24 hour period). There were also relay teams attempting 5, 10, 15, or 20 loops. Plus a single loop race at midnight and another at 6am in the opposite direction. All in all several thousand participants. Really good time.

Great Harvard 4th of July 5 Miler - Harvard, MA - July 4, 2011 -  From Rich Victor: Challenging 5 mile course over some nice back roads with some not paved (I was 5 seconds slower than at the trail race Thursday). Rolling hills for the first three miles and then a 200 ft. climb over a half mile. The
last half mile was a much welcomed downhill.
