Flutie 5K -
Natick, MA - September 25, 2011 - Last
race in the 2010-2011 TVFR Grand Prix Series. A couple of
TVFRers placed with Glenn Miller and Eric Latimer taking first
place division wins.
From Mary
Tyler: I had forgotten how hilly this race is - had
to walk a lot of uphills and downhills, and not just because
of my knee! It's amazing how easy it is to lose overall
conditioning when you can't run for 7 months.

Alex Handy
Memorial Road Race - Medway, MA - September 17, 2011 - From
Martin Auty: On Saturday I ran the Alex Handy
Memorial 5K in Medway. The weather was sunny and the air
was brisk with a temperature of about 44 at the 8:00AM race
time. There were 140 participants, many of them
walkers. I finished twelfth overall and first in my
division with a time of 22:01 and a 7:05 pace. The race
organization was great with pizza and drinks after the
race. The course was well marked and had many volunteers
and police to assist the runners. Overall a good race
for a great cause.

Run to the Rock
10K - Plymouth, MA - September 10, 2011 -
From Martin Auty: This
is a pick your race with a 5K - 10K or Half Marathon all
starting at various points in Plymouth at 9:00AM and all
finishing at Plymouth Rock. I have run the Half Marathon
a few time now and decided to try the 10K. My race
started at the Boys and Girls Club of Plymouth. The
weather was a sunny and warm 70 degrees at race time.
The race starts in an Industrial Park and after about a mile
it heads of towards Cape Cod Bay and Plymouth Rock. I
would describe the course as difficult with many ups and
downs, particularly in the first four miles including a very
long and steep hill just beyond the one mile mark. The
last mile is along Cape Cod Bay and finishes with a large
crowd cheering you on. The course is staffed with
volunteers and police which makes for a nice carefree
run. There are plenty of post race treats and a
Barbeque, all free for runners. Awards are three deep
and done quickly. There are several shuttle buses to
take you back to your vehicle, giving you the option to leave
whenever you would like. This is truly one of the best
organized races in the area and with three to pick from it
reaches a broad running base. I would definitely be back
here again.

Canal Diggers
5K - Worcester, MA - September 10, 2011 -
From Glenn
Miller: Nice day around 70 degrees and no humidity
(finally). Prize money made some really good runners come out.
The masters division was really tough. CMS did a really good
job with the race.... and I got a new PR! Check out the
winners time, ouch!

UNICO 5K -
Scranton, PA - September 3, 2011 -
From Gary Atlas: This 1st time
race was held in conjunction with Scranton's Italian
Festival. It was well organized, a good course and
had great course volunteer coverage. The race ended at
the same location as the Steamtown Marathon near the Scranton
City Hall. The scent of delicious Italian deserts and
delicacies from this huge festival could be sensed from blocks
away. Being a 1st time race, it had a low
turn-out......but I had my 1st ever trip to the awards
podium! Thank goodness for multiple awards groups.....
I'll take it and run with it!
