Half of Quincy 13.1 Mile Road Race - Quincy, MA - March 20, 2011 -   From Martin: The course was scenic and challenging at the same time.  A large hill at mile 5 and three hills between miles 9 - 10 and 11.  The Race started and finished at the Quincy High School. Running along Quincy Bay, through the historic section of Squantum and then down along Dorchester Bay before winding back to the High School.  Water stops were plentiful but could have been better manned.  Traffic control was excellent with some streets completely shut off to traffic and others with one way traffic.  There was a huge police presence which made running much easier.  I used this as a training run rather than a race and pretty much ran as I had planned.  There was an ample supply
of water at the finish line with a finishing medal for each runner.  The High School had plenty of sandwiches, soup and my favorite a frisbee sized cookie.  Parking was plentiful even though the race grew from last years 350 finishers to 720 this year.  My goal had been a 7:55 pace and I ran 7:56 which hopefully will leave me with a shorter recovery this week and a 5K in the plans for Saturday.  I would definitely run this again.  It is much closer and two hours earlier than the New Bedford Half.

Doablo Trails Challenge Half Marathon - Walnut Grove, CA - March 19, 2011 -   From Rich: This is a trail race at Mount Diablo State Park in Walnut Grove, CA. It has an elevation gain of approximately 2500 ft. Its generally up for the first 9 miles and then back down over the last 4. The weather wasn't quite what I expected. It was in the low 40s, windy, and rainy. It had rained a good bit of last week so mud was deep and slippery. Uphill was tough footing and downhill was just treacherous.  I was glad I decided to go in shorts rather than pants since there were a good number of, more than 8, creek crossings ranging from calf to knee deep. There was one stretch of about a quarter mile where the trail was in a stream. All said it was pretty fun. Well organized and plenty of good food at the end.

New Jersey Trail Series - Ultra Festival - Long Valley, NJ - March 19, 2011  -  From John: I ran a 100k race, which was part of the New Jersey Trail Series - New Jersey Ultra Festival this past weekend. The festival includes the following trail races: marathon, 50k, 50 miles, 100k, and 100 miles. It was a great event and I would highly recommend it for anyone wanting to attempt an ultra trail event. There were about 200 participants in all the races.
