15th Annual Turkey Classic 5K - Framingham, MA - Novemer 26, 2009   Overcast with temperatures in the mid 40s - perfect running weather.  Mostly a flat course with two tiny inclines (hills to Mary!).  Almost 1000 finishers.

Rhode Island 6 Hour ULTRA Run and Team Relay - Warwick, RI - November 15, 2009   From Mike:  This was the inaugural running, it was a beautiful day, 50's light mist, and no wind. Nice course, a 2.7 mile lap on a slightly rolling bike path, the volunteers were excellent, and aside from a 45 min. wait for the results, and a bib # confussion ( I always seem to be the victim) a great day.   I REALLY need a pick me up after I had to DNF in the Oil Creek 100 over Columbus day weekend.  (Ask me about it sometime) 46.8 mi. 3rd place 2nd master

5K for the PreK - Holliston, MA - November 7, 2009   From Charlene:  The temperature was in the thirties (burr) but it helped that it was sunny.  A fairly flat race - actually downhill in the beginning with two hills at the end.  Not a lot of runners in this race which is a shame.  Besides trophies and medals for the winners, everyone goes home with plates of brownies, cookies or other assorted goodies baked by the race committee.  My kind of race!

New York City Marathon - November 1, 2009   From Harry Jarvis:   I'm glad I can say that I ran a NYC marathon, but... never again!  What a colossal fiasco! Up at 3:45 AM to get to the subway to get to the assigned ferry to get to the bus to get to the start to wait 3 hours in the rain. Then they closed the corrals at 9:00 (for a 9:40 start) nearly provoking a riot as thousands of runners faced the prospect of missing their hard-earned starting time. In the end most went over the six foot chain-link fence overwhelming the sentries. Running in New York is a lot like driving in New York; you'd better not be in a hurry. Many of the neighborhood streets are narrow, causing slow-downs, and the left and right side water stops are opposite each other rather than staggered like Boston. There were also people attempting to cross the course, including a woman pushing a stroller. After the finish it is back to the cattle chute for a long walk to the baggage trucks with no means of escape. It took me 45 minutes to get out the end of the chute. I guess this is to be expected in an event this size, so I think I'll stick mostly to less well-attended races. I'm a small-town boy.
