From Russell Fradkin:
I know
that there have a bunch of Tri-Valley people over the
years who have been down to Fall River for the
Thomas Guinta 5K, a memorial for an officer
killed while in the line of duty. The flyer we
received for this year's race stated that it was going
to be the last. So I went down to
run it, as it was one of my favorite races,
having grown up in Fall River.
Happily though, they announced that a new
sponsor was found and the race will continue at least
for next year. The course has the first mile uphill, a
decent incline; the second mile is downhill and
the third and final mile is relatively flat....and
lots of good food at the finish....a very fun
race and beautiful and perfect running weather. I
finished 67th and was very happy with that!
There was a minor glitch however. The start of
the race was not too well organized as there were a
bunch of slowpokes on the front lines, causing
many of us to trip over each other as we tried
to gain running room by jumping over onto the side
walks and people's front yards to get around some
walkers. I should have realized what the start
may be like as just prior to the start as I finished
my warm up, as I walked by the starting line
area, I saw a young mom with a camera and she told her
two young daughter runners, ages 10 ? and
11 ? and she said: "Make sure you stay out in the
front line so I can get a good picture!"....very
cute.........

This is the first
race in the New England Runner Pub Series. Over 2000
runners on a somewhat warm day. The race is an out and
back course with some rolling hills (mountains to
Mary). Plenty of beer after the race, of course.

Boston Tune-Up 15K - Upton, MA - April 10, 2010 -
This year's race was
dedicated to Larry Olsen, forever #1. Frank Nealon was
also honored for his 30th year as race director. There
were 388 finishers, the most in the race's 30 year
history. Ross Mungeam was first TVFRer in and 1st in
his age group.
